BrainVoyager File Types Glossary

This glossary lists and describes all the file types you will encounter while using BrainVoyager. This page is incomplete as it is currently under development.

Anatomical files

.amr for Anatomical magnetic resonance

  • contains an array of 2D anatomic slices

.vmr for Volumetric magnetic resonance

  • contains 3D data structure for anatomical scans

Functional files

.fmr for Functional magnetic resonance

  • contains information about functional slices
  • must be partnered with .stc file
  • is a simple text file

.stc for Slice time course

  • contains functional time series data organized by 2 volumes over time

.vtc for Volumetric time course

  • contains functional time series data organized by 3D volumes over time
  • usually linked to a .vmr (3D anatomical) file

Procedure and analysis files

.avg for Event-related average

  • contains results for event related average (event related design)

.ctr for Contrast

  • contains information about the contrasts to use in a general linear model

.eig for Eigen values/vectors

  • contains information about the eigen values/vectors when conducting an independent component analysis(ica)

.glm for General linear model

  • contains information about results of a general linear model (either from a single subject or multi-subject/run design matrix)

.ica for Independent component analysis

  • contains information about the results of a independent component analysis

.mdm for Multi-subject/run design matrix

  • contains information about a multi-subject/run design, referencing the .vtcs and .sdms used to fit the GLM to multiple runs

.msk for Mask

  • contains information about which voxels are inside the brain

.prt for Protocol

  • contains information about stimulus timing for a functional run
  • is a simple text file

.rtc for Reference time course

  • contains information about motion corretion (6 predictors: translation and rotation in the x, y, and z axes)

.sdm for Single subject/run design matrix

  • contains information about the model being fit to a .vtc

.vmp for Volumetric map
